Henley-on-Todd

Have fun, enjoy the hilarity and help raise funds for charity, with major sponsor ASSA ABLOY, the world’s leading lock group!

Henley-on-ToddHeld on the third Saturday in September, the Henley-on-Todd dry riverbed rowing and sailing regatta takes place in the glorious red centre of Australia – Alice Springs.

In 1962, Reg Smith and his compatriots at Alice Springs Meteorological Bureau proposed they hold an actual regatta along the lines of the famous Henley-on-Thames, a race between Cambridge and Oxford Universities. The idea was taken up by the Rotary Club of Alice Springs, and the fact that the town was 1500km’s from the nearest large body of water was never seen as a problem.

The ASSA ABLOY Henley-on-Todd regatta is a true celebration of irreverent Australian humour based on just general good fun. Watching seemingly sane people race bottomless eights, oxford tubs, bathtubs and yachts through the deep course sand of the Todd River provides a unique spectacle among world sporting events.

ASSA ABLOY joins the revelries as the major sponsor of this unique world-renowned event. This is a very exciting way for our company to assist the three local Alice Springs Rotary Clubs raise much needed funds for charity and community based projects, and support the local community.
